Julie Torregrossa is an on-location natural light photographer. She specializes in the photography of newborns, babies, children, senior portraits, and family relationships.
To make sure you are aware of our schedule openings and special sessions we offer such as Mini Sessions, you will want to be on our mailing list. Please contact Julie, email@example.com, to schedule your session or to subscribe to our mailing list.
When deciding on your session, please keep in mind that sessions are typically scheduled on weekday mornings around 9 or 10am for outdoor locations. We will have some weeknights available as well and those sessions are scheduled at 5:15 and 6:15 depending on sunset. Times are similar for Saturday sessions. Since I am a natural light photographer, session times depend upon the optimal lighting conditions and, at times, need to be changed due to weather.
Typically, we stay booked several months in advance. Saturday and weeknight sessions fill up most quickly. Please contact us as soon as possible to ensure that your desired date is available. If you are pregnant and desire newborn pictures, it is suggested that you call to inquire well before your due date. Since there is such a small window of time to capture the best pictures of your newborn baby, these are typically scheduled within the first 10 days of life.
My favorite style of photography is capturing kids playing, smiling, flirting, laughing, exploring and, sometimes, even crying! My goal is to let your child be himself. Just kids being kids. As a photographer, I feel that my specialty is capturing your child's personality. I love having fun at photo sessions and strive for it to be a low-stress environment.
All photography is done at the location of your choice. I have discovered that outdoor settings give the optimal lighting as well as a "treasure chest" full of natural "props" that will help spark your child's imagination and lead us to the most beautiful and timeless photos. There are a variety of locations in the Memphis area that are ideal for photographing your child. You may choose a local park, your own backyard, or even a new location that I haven't photographed before. I really enjoy trying out new places so don't be shy to toss out an idea! I have several places that I can suggest as well. Indoor locations with plenty of bright and natural lighting are also ideal. We will book your location according to the style and setting that best suits you and your child.
After booking your session with 1:17 Photography, we will give you access to our What to Wear Guide, a 26 page booklet full of wonderful tips and examples to help guide you in your clothing choices. Let's face it, clothing choice is a key element to a beautiful photo session and this booklet will prove a valuable resource!
What to Expect
Most sessions average around one hour. However, each session is unique based upon the number and age of the subjects as well as the location. I will take some time to get to know your child or family so we can feel comfortable with each other as well as our surroundings. Your photo session is about you and your child and will take whatever time is necessary. It is always helpful if you bring along a favorite blanket or toy for "security" as well as a favorite treat or snack. I've found that children can get confused when too many people are watching and "directing" them. I do not want the photo session to be a stressful occasion for you or your child. Be aware of your main purpose in the photo session and keep this in mind when deciding on adding additional family members into the session. For example, if your main goal is to have beautiful photographs of your daughter at age 2, be aware of asking too much of her in one session by adding in family photographs, sibling photographs, etc. You know your child best and what she is able to handle. My goal is for it to be an enjoyable event where your child has a great time!
